What you will learn

Learning Objectives:  

  1. Participants will explain each of the sensory systems and describe the processes involved in sensory processing, including how the brain interprets and responds to sensory information.
  2. Participants will identify the characteristics of sensory processing differences including reactivity, discrimination, and sensory-motor, explain their impact on daily functioning, and identify strategies for assessment and intervention.
  3. Participants will explain how sensory processing influences levels of arousal and regulation and describe the relationship between sensory input, the nervous system, and behavioral responses.

This course is eligible for 0.5 contact hours (0.05 CEUs).

Successful Completion of Course:  

The following criteria will determine satisfactory completion of the course: 

- Attendance to the entire length of the course is evidenced by database logs. No partial credit will be awarded. 

- Successful completion of post-course quiz on learning objectives with at least 80% of answers correct.  

- Completion of post-course survey  


After successful completion of the steps above, your certificate will be available on your learner profile.

Instructor Bio  

Dr. Piller is the owner and director of Piller Child Development, an outpatient pediatric therapy company with three locations in the greater Phoenix area. She has advanced training in sensory integration and also specializes in feeding therapy. She received her masters in occupational therapy from Temple University and her PhD in occupational therapy from Texas Woman’s University. She has her board certification in pediatrics from the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and is also a fellow of AOTA.
